Let’s help each other

I’m all for sharing best practices. If you have found something that works for you and you think it’s the best kept secret, I beg you, please share it.

To help you out, here are the areas where I’d love your input:

  • Best way to remove armpit hair
  • Best exercise for flabby arms and stomach
  • Quickest healthy meal
  • How to wrap relaxed hair
  • The essential spices for cooking most Nigerian dishes
  • Least expensive way to call Nigeria (I think my current deal ($2.50 for 35 minutes) is ok but I wouldn’t mind something better)
  • Best blemish-control regimen for the face
  • How you keep up with your to do lists and get things done

In other news, I’m trying a new hair salon tomorrow morning for hair relaxing (I’m done with my old place). I’m hoping my scalp doesn’t get burned and I don’t get gouged financially! Ms. O and Bob-ij, I’m looking forward to receiving your recommendations for hair stylists in O-town!

  1. My quickest healthy meal: well the first stage is not that quick, which is baking 12 chicken drumsticks in the oven. But after they are done, then on any day of the week, for a quick meal, i grab a salad, add some pecans and cranberries, my fav vinaigrette dressing of the time and 1 piece of baked drumstick. Takes 1 minute to reheat the chicken.

My can't do without additives to Naija cooking – crayfish, salt and habanero peppers. The only thing I don't use crayfish for are rice dishes. Even then I have tasted stew with crayfish and it was good.

I have heard the best thing for armpit hair is waxing, but my pain threshold is low so never done it, but i have seen good results on friends.

  2. best exercise for flabby arms: arm exercises with free weights/dumbells and those rubber bands. pushups, arm exercises – I have one in mind but i dont know how to describe it.

best exercise for stomach: cardio and more cardio and easy on carbs. Thing with crunches and all is you could be toning your stomach but without cardio it won't show. I prefer standing abs to on the floor abs. I find that the exercise videos on my ondemand cable have good ab exercises.

Quickest healthy meal: baking fish filets, adding tuna to lettuce, blending smoothies from fresh fruit.

wrapping hair: Another thing I don't know how to describe. start from your part in your hair (mine is on the left). so i go clockwise towards the right and pin it as i go. then i go to the left side of the part and comb the hair clockwise also, pin as needed and put a silk scarf over it.

Essential spices: I always boil my meat or chicken with habanero pepper. I use knorr, always gotta have onions, curry and thyme for stew. My aunty introduced me to the Knorr chicken powder, its very good even works in eggs. Most nigerians I know use Accent.

I don't check the price per minutes but I use Peezy.com

I use neutrogena but everyones face is different

I don't do lists and stuff.

whew this has to be my longest comment, hope it made sense

  3. When I wrap my hair, I use a wrap lotion or mousse it holds curls actually. Motions, I like best. Olive oil wrap mousse is a lil..messy if u use more than a drop literally.

So I comb or brush my hair out, making a part in the center of side whichever works and then brush (those plastic brushes work best not the wooden ones with the bristles) in a clockwise motion around your head. It gets a little cumbersome right at the top of the head but I use bobby pins to hold the hair in place all around it and then tie with a silk scarf.

Sometimes my hair scarf comes off when Im sleeping so I always wear a hair net on top.

Its a lil cumbersome but it keeps my hair, and I do it every night when my hair is out.

    Hope this helps.

  4. I use Localphone.com….its great for me o!

May constant ingredients:Onions (lots), pepper, salt and Chicken Knorr. I always try to make my stew n jollof rice with meat/chicken stock (broth) gives flavor and nutmeg makes people perceive the food from miles away…n mkes mouth water in anticipation…lol

  5. Wow people are being really helpful. God bless blogsville.

I get things done by using a sticky note on my desktop and writing them down in BOLD WORDS so that anytime I see them I get ashamed that I haven't yet completed them.

I'm not a pro in the rest. LOL.

  6. For the cheapest way to call naija, i will recommend Rebtel. You sign up on their site and enter the number you want to call in naija…..a local US or Canadian number will be generated for that naija number. So when you wanna call the number, simply dial the local number generated and u'll be speaking to naija. Though you have to load minutes via a credit card. But so far its the best i've used and the calls does not break. I can send you a link if i know ur email addy

  7. Best way to remove armpit hair – I shave but doubt that is the best

Best exercise for flabby arms and stomach – I use the biggest Loser workout video + a dance video for cardio and an ab Rocket for crunches.

Quickest healthy meal – I eat fruits for breakfast.

How to wrap relaxed hair.- I cut in the middle of the back of the head and comb clockwise with a little mousse if wet. If dry, use hot olive oil or shea butter on the scalp. I use a small light hairnet and no scarf.

The essential spices for cooking most Nigerian dishes – I have some from home for making banga, whitesoup and pepper soup but basic – habanero, onions and Knorr or Maggi. Crayfish is must for soups.

Least expensive way to call Nigeria (I think my current deal ($2.50 for 35 minutes) is ok but I wouldn’t mind something better) – We use a voip access, about the same as your deal though

Best blemish-control regimen for the face – I use Olay products, works for me.

How you keep up with your to do lists and get things done – leave notes on my work desk and also set alarms on my phone.

    Thanks for sharing everyone.

  9. For a quick healthy breakfast, i like oatmeal and almonds or oatmeal and blue berries with soymilk (or whatever type of milk you like). I also substitute low fat yogurt with oatmeal. Quick, easy and healthy.

I love Nair for armpit hair removal.

  10. Oh hands down the best way to call Nigeria (in my experience) is Rebtel.com. How it works is it pairs any international number you give it with a local number (local to your phone's area code) so you dial that local number and it connects you automatically. Pinless dialing, ridiculously low prices (I credited my account $20 a while back and it lasted AGES), regular discounts/freebies (on July 1 they had free calls to Canada)… what more can you ask for?

  12. Okay, let's see:

    * Best way to remove armpit hair: I use a Venus shaving stick with shower gel. I don't get cuts this way. When I've used Nair or Veet, I've burned in 2 mins (sensitive underarms).

    * Best exercise for flabby arms and stomach: cardio, cardio, cardio to reduce the flab, and pushups and various types of planks to build tone in both the arms and stomach. Pushups are awesome because they work more body parts than we feel.

    * Quickest healthy meal: Pizza? Just kidding. I really like whole wheat pasta with lean turkey breast and tomato sauce.

    * Best blemish-control regimen for the face: I try to never use too many chemicals on my face so I stick to baby wash, and it works for me.

    * How you keep up with your to do lists and get things done: I set alarms on my phone.

  13. Best way to wrap hair is to make sure you wrap from the first day after relaxing and never stop… It is when you sometimes wrap and sometimes don't that you will fall into problems. It is my observation that ppl who have problems wrapping their hair do it on a sometimeish basis. I hold the top of my head flat get a large paddle brush and keep brushing the hair around my head until it lies flat. As it grows close to your due date this will get harder, but you just have to put in more effort. LOL

As for hair removal ugh… gawd… I get such bad ingrown hairs. The last time I went to the doctors they said that I cannot remove any hair I should just trim it because when the follicle gets infected antibiotics wont always do the job.

  14. 1. Best way to remove armpit hair – Try Nair or Veet

    2. 3. How you keep up with your to do lists and get things done…I set reminders for tasks on my BB and since it goes everywhere with me, I'm able to get on top of most tasks as soon as I get the reminder…it's very important not to procrastinate or push tasks forward…do what you can do immediately, immediately!

    All the best gurl…

  15. Best way to remove armpit hair – Shave with a new razor every time.

Best exercise for flabby arms and stomach – Dunno

How you keep up with your to do lists and get things done – My new iphone!

  16. Best way to remove armpit hair: Nair, hands down.

    1) I apply a coat of Nair to each underarm and wait a few minutes before lightly shaving in direction of the hair growth.

    2) After rinsing, I take a soapy wash cloth and wash off any remaining residue.

    3) Rinse again, dry and apply a bump relief product to prevent bumps and ingrown hairs. I recommend Barc's Bump Down or Bikini Zone's Medicated Creme for bump relief.

This routine has saved my armpits from unsightly ingrown hairs.

  17. Hi There!!

How you keep up with your to do lists and get things done BlackBerry Reminders! (my BFF)

  18. Best way to remove armpit hair is waxing. After you are waxed it is smooth and soft. Feels great, afterwards. Some of my workers use lidocaine cream, thats usually use on babies during circuncision, but ive never done it.

best exercise for abs and flabby arms- do the Kim Kardashians video (upper body) or do Gilad total body scultp (on fitTV). my body is crazy hot cause i do those two. You wont regret it, there not easy because those are the hardest body parts to tone up.

quickest healthy meal- i do a meditareanian salad. I use baby lettuce and organic greens, cooked salmon ( i cook it in the morning or day before and just warm it up when ready), reduced fat-feta cheese, baby tomatoes, and anything else you like precut, and i'm out the door.

  19. Armpit hair – Nair Hair Remover

Flabby arms – lose weight, then lift weights EVERYDAY

To do list – make a major project list for everything you wish to accomplish then prioritize the list according to importance. Then take the first item on the list and make a mini task list. Everyday, dedicate time to accomplishing at least three things on that list. After finishing all your tasks, move on to the next item on your major project list. Repeat.

…you can work on multiple projects if you can…

  22. Best spices/seasoning for Nigerian cooking: Knorr Chicken cubes and thyme. These two together can create any dish.

Best work out: Jogging/running gives your whole body a work-out. You could do this for 30mins a day. You could also go on brisk walks in the evenings or early in the mornings, walking helps to clear the head and you lose pounds all at the same time.

To tone, shape, sculp arms you could use dumbells if you don't have any you could use bottles of water or cans/tins of food.

Skin-care regime to rid blemishes: water, water, water. Make sure you wash make-up off before going to bed, allow your skin to breathe from wearing make-up, change pillow-cases every 2-3 days and avoid wearing your hair on your face and touching your face with your fingers all the time. Pillows, hands and hair all pick-up dirt and germs from the environment around us and of course your hair has oil in it.

    Flaxseed is also quite good.

    Quickest healthy meal to prepare:

get creative with salads and stir-frys.

How to keep up with To-Do-Lists:

Pray and ask Jesus for His strength and to rid you of procasnation. Trust me it works.
